Why I'm starting this blog, and what to expect from it.
This is the first post on the new site. I'm starting it for one reason: I build a lot, mostly after hours, and most of what I learn never gets written down anywhere. This is where it goes now.
A little about me so the rest makes sense. I'm in Peoria, IL. Clinical informatics trainer by day, building Edwards Tech Innovation at night. Father of three. I build and direct AI agents on my own hardware — voice assistants, retrieval setups that let an agent pull from your own documents, multi-agent systems where a few of them work a problem together. I'm not a career software engineer and I've never run a team of developers. I'm a builder who learned by doing, and I'd rather show the actual work than talk about it.
So here's what to expect.
- Build logs from what I'm working on — Helix, OpenCrow, and the agent projects behind them. What worked, what broke, what I'd undo if I started over.
- Notes on agent architecture. Where I explain a term, I explain it plainly, because half the people I want reading this don't write code and shouldn't have to.
- Occasional pieces on the indie-dev grind — building real things on nights and weekends, in Peoria, with a day job and a family.
No marketing. No content calendar. No posting for the sake of posting. When something is worth writing down, it goes here. When it isn't, it doesn't.
That's the whole plan.
